School Of Media and Communication ALumni Embark on The Dubai Media TOUR

A trip to Dubai Media city was organized for the 4th to 8th of November 2013, the Pan Atlantic University and brilliantly championed and organized by the CME 5 class, who extended the invitation to other members of the alumni association.
The objective of the trip was to experience and learn from the media and communication industry in Dubai, so we visited the Dubai Media City (DMC) which houses a host of various media businesses within its community.
We arrived Dubai on Monday the 4th of November 2013 and checked into the "Emirates concord hotel" A deserved four star by the royal treatment we experienced there.
Don't just take our word for it, treat yourself to a stay there, it is situated in Deira, El-makhtoum Street.
The next day Tuesday the 5th was the 1st day of the media tour and our 1st stop was to a part of the media city called the International Media Production Zone which hosts companies that specialize in Graphics Arts, Publishing and Packaging. "It is the zone that creates a unique environment for all kinds of printing businesses" said the head of Operations, Media Production Zone, Mr. Ali Dawood.  He told us that the zone was part of the Dubai government's vision to develop itself into a global media hub, and on the shelves, we could see a couple of magazines produced by some companies it hosts e.g. CEO, Forbes, Golf Digest etc.
Next stop was to Sony Professional Solutions Company, they produce multimedia equipment for their clients. Here we were received by Mr. Anu Thomas, the Manager of Marketing Communications and also by Mr. Paul Martin, the head of channel sales.
Mr. Martin gave an extensive lecture on media solutions that Sony gives to their varied range of clientele in the broadcast, production, events and graphic media by the various technical equipments that they produce; from voice recorders to the highest resolution video cameras and visual equipment used in movie making and Multi-Media coverage. His lecture was backed with technical demonstrations and a tour of the facility.
We then visited ABC Imaging, a printing company that prints amazing representations from soft copy into3D models. We were received by the Major Account Manager Mr. Adel Youssef. He explained to us their operations and kindly gave us a tour of the facilities and products. He also gave us a quick demonstration of how the 3d machine works.

Then we visited "Seven" a production and events company that provides a flexible venue for the production of content for television, they not only took us round their studio but also to see the construction of their new UB van in process. We were received by Mr. Pierre Tabet and his team.
Other companies visited by members was the "Associated Press Company" a news gathering Organization. They met with the Bureau Chief, Mr. Brian Murphy. He talked a little about how
Associated Press applies the latest technology to collect and distribute content to its clients all over the world. It is not-for-profit news cooperative.
Also visited was the Omnicom Media Group, an advertising, marketing and corporate communications company. Received by some staff.

You can picture a room filled with great media minds, you should know a lot of questions were asked, that lead to discussions, that lead back to more questions:-)

We shed all formalty as we went all '9ja' for the Golden Eaglets later that day, the women screamed excitedly while the men roared chants that electrified the entire stadium during the semi final

Just when we thought our hearts couldn't take any more thrills, wednesday came along with thedesert Safari and tour which included camel riding, belly dancing show and a dinner.
Thursday was the 'me,myself &I time' where we could do whatsoever we wanted & boy were we lost for choice; The Ferrari world, the worlds largest Mosque, the worlds tallest building, the worlds largest aquarium, the Dubai City Mall.......need I say we were spoiled for choice.
The learning experience was intended to expose us to the innovations, new technologies and ideas that can be used in running our various media businesses to help us acquire new skills, new approaches and improved operations to improve our organizational effectiveness in order impact on the communities we serve and hence the wider Nigerian society and media and communication sector of the country and it did just that.

The tour is intended to be a yearly Activity as it is intended to help fulfill the school and association’s mission of continuous education and of forming competent media and communication professionals, to enable them pursue their calling of service to human cultures with a sense of creativity, skill, knowledge and values.

 Kind regards,
